Street Radio is a Hive application developed for Hidden Histories project that Hive develop with Armin Medosch, Solent Center for Architecture and design and SEDA.

This application is designed for FM micro-broadcast, Bluetooth interaction and WiFi? connectivity, delivered from selected locations on the streets.
The initial ingridients for street radio device are:

ASUS WL-500G premium, that run's OpenWrt RC-5 firmware and BlueJack personality,


1Gb USB storage,


4 port USB Hub,


MSI Bluetoes II Bluetooth dongle,


LIneX micro FM transmitter.

All this is stripped (very carefuly!!!!) of it's plastic casing, and prepared like that:



Make noted that the ASUS WL-500Gp board is cut by 6mm (do not cut more than that, as it may damage connections and/or create ground loops) on BOTH sides to fit the weather proof (IP-66) box (254x180x63 mm) in such way, that there is enough space for all 3 antenna's (WiFi, BT, FM) on the sides, as to be NOT obscured by the board itself:



Then soder USB hub to the ethernet casing, (we need only 2 extra USB ports, so we can "loose" other 2):



Power solution is based on 25W DC/DC AXA005A0XZ (by Tyco Electronics) converter and IP-67 external socket:



The WiFi? antenna holder is made of 20x70x1 mm aluminium stripe, that is bended at right angle, and drilled and tapped for 2x m 3's for fixing to the weather proof box and 6mm for RMSMA :



Now prepare A to B USB cabel about 120mm long, to connect the FM transmitter to the USB hub, and position everything (don't forget external fixings of your liking to the box itself!!!) inside the weather proof box like that:



Mount transmitter with hot glue to the top part of the box, add some more hot glue to fix in place all that "wobbles"........



Check it all works, close the lid! Paint.......



Ask the electrician to mount it on the street light column.....



....and connect the power unit at the bottom of the column.



That's it!!!
